From military history to fashion, young entrepreneur Sami builds Griffin Haute

Sami's Griffin Haute fashion brand pays tribute to the discipline and courage of the Indian Armed Forces. Infused with military insignias and nods to vintage aesthetics, its name represents a fusion of mythical griffins and the elegance of French haute couture. Each design echoes military precision alongside historical Indian architecture, emphasizing craftsmanship, heritage, and a commitment to sustainable luxury production.

For Sami, Griffin Haute was born out of his respect for the Indian Armed Forces. The discipline, valor, honour, and sacrifice of the armed forces remained with him as he ventured into a completely different world of fashion.

At present, 19-year-old Sami is studying for a bachelor’s in Pharmacy and is building up his fashion design venture as a mark of his respect for the Indian Army.

Griffin Haute was not conceptualized as a well-thought-out business plan with a fat pitch deck to woo investors. In fact, it began with an interest in military insignias, heraldry, military orders, architecture, and vintage. Sami wanted to create a label that has an identity and does not jump on the bandwagon of what is ‘in’ and ‘out.’

He picked the name Griffin Haute as a fusion of words and ideas that defined his venture. The mythical creature known as a griffin is a combination of the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. While the eagle signifies vision, vigilance, freedom, and power, the lion in the Ashoka emblem stands for courage, royalty, legacy, and leadership.

For Sami, the Griffin embodies strength, wisdom, power, protection, leadership, and ferocity. The word ‘haute’ in the name is derived from the French language and symbolizes elegance and haute couture, or high fashion. Combined with the mythical creature, it becomes a blend of timeless legacy and modern-day luxury.

Griffin Haute draws its design vocabulary from military precision, vintage clothing, Indian buildings from the British era, clubs, and restaurants. Sami wanted to capture the spirit of these elements through his label rather than replicate them. This thought process informed some of the brand’s creative decisions, such as using wooden and coconut-shell buttons.

Griffin Haute’s commitment to elegance, sustainability, and ethical production is visible right from the packing material. The luxury fashion brand promises to use hard boxes and paper-based materials that are reusable and recyclable.

The venture is still in its infancy, and the current wordmark will soon morph into other emblems of the label’s rich legacy. Sami envisions creating lasting value through ‘craftsmanship, heritage, and conscious luxury’ in Griffin Haute.
